A project idea does not always require a workshop full of equipment at home. The Alachua County Library District’s MakerSpace at Headquarters Library gives Gainesville residents a place to explore tools including 3D printers, a laser cutter, sewing machines and electronic kits.
The library describes the space as supporting digital and technological literacy with access at little to no cost. It also lists laptops for coding and 3D modelling, along with more familiar art and paper-working supplies.

For a first visit, start with the current session listing. The MakerSpace’s room hours vary, and its main information page directs visitors to check event times and registration. An introductory class and an open-studio session serve different needs; equipment on the list is not a promise of immediate drop-in access.
Bring a modest first project and questions about materials, training and what can be completed during the session. Learning whether a tool suits your idea can be as useful as leaving with a finished object. Check the instructions for your particular booking before preparing files or purchasing supplies.
